Welcome to the 23rd International Colloquium on Magnetic Films and Surfaces (ICMFS-2018), which will be held from July 22-27, 2018 on the beautiful campus of the University of California in Santa Cruz CA, USA.

The 23rd International Colloquium on Magnetic Films and Surfaces (ICMFS-2018) is a satellite conference to the 21st International Conference on Magnetism to be held from July 15-20 2018 in San Francisco CA, USA, just 80 miles north of Santa Cruz CA (www.icm2018sf.org). The ICMFS-2018 continues the tradition of previous Colloquia, which started in 1964 in London UK, but has not been held in the USA for 33 years.

Pursuing the idea of free circulation of scientists, the ICMFS-2018 will bring together scientists from all areas of magnetism in lower dimensions. The Colloquium aims at exchange of new results and ideas for advancing the field of magnetism at surfaces, interfaces, in micro- and nanostructures as well as of spin-dependent phenomena. A dedicated symposium will pay tribute to Peter Grünberg‘s engagement with ICMFS, who passed away earlier this year.

The structure of the Colloqium will be a single session style. It will consist of invited and oral talks given by world leading experts from research institutes, universities and industry. There will be extensive poster sessions, where attendants and particularly early career scientists and students are encouraged to present their work related to the fields covered by the ICMFS-2018.
